The Premise
Inspired by something I recently heard about (the 4x4x40 challenge), I decided to create my own challenge, as a way to mark this birthday milestone in a pandemically personal - and memorable - way. And so, the 3 x <21 x 71 x 50 challenge was born:
Every 3 hours, I run 71 yards in under 21 seconds, for 50 hours.
The Details
Since 50 is not divisible by 3, there was a 2-hour warm-up period (stretching, checking the "course," mental preparation, etc.) The warm-up started at 4 PM, Friday the 19th and the first run kicked off at 6 PM. The final run was at 6 PM, Sunday. Progress was continually recorded (final tally below), and I rigged a live webstream of the site. The camera module has a (so-so) night-vision mode, so night owls could follow along at 3 AM!
The LiveStream Montage
Boiled down 50 hours of video to 7 minutes. As always, the soundtrack makes the video. Drew on some old-school tracks for this compilation (track list is at the end of the video).
Notable segments:
1:15 First run was highly theatrical (a la the Jerry Seinfeld running style)
2:45 Translation of gestures: [sleep], [un poquito], [all good]
3:23 Note the windmilling on the turn
3:40 Had some fellas over to celebrate - beers were involved (see segment at 4:38 for ramifications ...)
4:08 KChan shakes head ("this guy ain't right")
4:38 Challenge is taking its toll
5:45 Final run; for no good reason, I decided a sub-12 time was necessary, and the old man still has some wheels
The heart and paw symbol on the hour board ... ask me about that if you're curious.
