Great Bedtime Reading
The paper I submitted back in the Fall of 2008 was finally published in the journal Geophysics on 31 December 2009! The academic journal publication process takes a while. It goes something link this ... The paper is submitted, looked at by an editor, who then selects a couple of peer reviewers. The reviewers take their sweet time, because they have better things to do, but eventually provide their reviews/critiques of the manuscript. The editor collects these and makes a decision: accepted with minor revision, accepted with moderat revision, or not accepted. Mine fell into the middle, requiring quite a bit of work to address the reviewer comments, most of which had to do with how well my topic fit into their journal theme. After making my revisions, the paper goes back to the journal for a second go around, albeit a bit quicker. After that, I was informed the paper was accepted for publication - this was back in July of 2009. Then comes copy editing, proofs, and voila! A few months later, you have this.
